Last call for Season 6!
Last call for Season 6!
[This is a duplicate email I sent for Seasons 4-5]
Hi everyone! If you're reading this, but have not received any of the Season 6 quiz newsletters, that means you've added your name to the email list but haven't become a league member yet. (You can always join at any time, but if you can get this week's quizzes in by Monday morning you'll be caught up and fully competitive.)
In this post, I just wanted to highlight a few aspects of School of Trivia that I'm proud of (if you haven't yet read the welcome post explaining how the league works, you can find that at schooloftrivia.com). If you're interested in playing in the league and receiving the Mon-Fri trivia quiz newsletters, here's the link to join:

A novel scoring system
There are 5 questions on each quiz. Typical one-point-per-question scoring would lead to only 6 possible outcomes: 0,1,2,3,4, or 5. In this league, you get 5 points for the answer you're most confident in, down to 1 for the answer you're least confident in. So you can score anywhere from 0 to 15 on a quiz, and I think that big increase in the possible scoring outcomes is a good thing. Five different people could each get 3 out of 5 correct, and they could easily all end up with a different score (3 correct could result in anywhere from 6-12 points). Also, the confidence points are really testing your knowledge on a second level — the quizzes are about not only what you know, but how well you know it.
The quiz show canon
Having spent more hours than I'd care to admit preparing for a certain quiz show, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of the kind of thing that comes up. I am hitting you hard with quiz show content every weekday, and every question you get wrong is a question that could come in handy one day when you need it (and in my experience, like losing poker hands, you tend to remember the questions you get wrong when you're competing.) Not that you have to have game show ambitions to enjoy the league, of course. But even if you don't think you'd ever be at that level, you might be surprised how fast you can improve. You really might be closer than you think.
Weekly deadlines
This is just a small thing, but if I can help it, I don't want anyone to fall behind because they didn't have time or forgot to play the quiz one day. So I try to give everyone more time with the weekly deadlines, and I send out reminder emails to those who haven't submitted yet as we get closer to Monday morning. If you're swamped during the week, you can probably knock out a whole week of quizzes in 20-30 minutes over the weekend if you want.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I've really been getting a lot of good feedback on the league so far (see above), so if you're thinking at all that you might enjoy it, you should join us. We've recently passed 200 members, but more importantly, the league has grown in size every month so far, so hopefully that means I'm doing something right. Hope you all have a great weekend!
