Season 22, Day 18 - "Soul Cycle"
It's Old week, and today's quiz is inspired by "Old King Cole."
“Old King Cole”
Old King Cole was a merry old soul,
And a merry old soul was he
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl,
And he called for his fiddlers three.
“Old King Cole” is a British nursery rhyme. King Cole may have been an actual king of England, but there is no consensus as to his real-life identity. The poem references a bowl (believed to be a drinking vessel) and a pipe (which may refer to a tobacco pipe or a musical instrument). “Old King Cole” is typically included in Mother Goose collections. The stage name of legendary musician Nat King Cole (born Nathaniel Adams Coles) was inspired by “Old King Cole.” A Maxfield Parrish mural of Old King Cole is on display in the King Cole Bar at NYC’s swanky St. Regis Hotel, which was once frequented by Salvador Dalí, Marilyn Monroe, and John Lennon. The smallest book in the Library of Congress, measuring only about 1.25 mm by 1.25 mm, is a copy of “Old King Cole.”
