Season 26, Day 11 - "On the Seventh Day"
It's "Night" week, and today's quiz is inspired by Mr. Saturday Night.
Mr. Saturday Night
Mr. Saturday Night is a 1992 comedy-drama movie about the rise and fall of a stand-up comedian named Buddy Young, Jr., played by Billy Crystal. After starting out in the Jewish resorts of the Catskills (known as the Borscht Belt), he makes it big with his own Saturday night television show, which he eventually loses after performing some offensive material. In the final insult, he is snubbed after he’s scheduled to follow the Beatles in their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show (February 9, 1964). As his career falls apart, the acerbic comedian alienates his family, including his long suffering brother and manager (played by character actor David Paymer in an Oscar-nominated performance), realizing the error of his ways by the film’s end. Mr. Saturday Night was adapted for a stage musical that ran on Broadway in 2022, earning 5 Tony nominations, including Best Musical and Best Actor for Crystal.
