A Little Night Music
Isnāt it rich? Are we a pair? Me here at last on the ground, you in mid-airā¦
A Little Night Music is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It was inspired by Swedish director Ingmar Bergmanās film Smiles of a Summer Night. The title is a translation of Eine kleine Nachtmusik, the nickname of Mozartās Serenade No. 13 in G major. The musical includes the popular song āSend in the Clownsā (opening lines quoted above), performed originally by Glynis Johns, by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1977 movie, and by Hannah Waddingham and Catherine Zeta-Jones in recent revivals. The song was also famously recorded by Frank Sinatra and Judy Collins, whose version became a major pop charts hit and won the Grammy for Song of the Year.
