Season 26, Day 14 - "Iguana Nirvana"
It's "Night" week, and today's quiz is inspired by The Night of the Iguana.
The Night of the Iguana
The Night of the Iguana is a play by Tennessee Williams. A departure from his usual Southern settings and themes, it takes place at the seedy Costa Verde Hotel in Puerto Barrio, Mexico. The main character is a defrocked priest-turned-tour guide; other characters include the lusty widow who manages the hotel and a chaste spinster traveling with her dying poet grandfather. The 1964 film adaptation was directed by John Huston and starred Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, and Deborah Kerr. It was filmed in Puerto Vallarta and is credited with making the Mexican resort city a popular destination (there’s even a statue of John Huston there). In 1962, Eleanor Roosevelt took Indira Gandhi to see the play, later writing that both of them were “a little baffled in trying to figure out what was the message the author meant to give his audience.”
