Fuji apple

The Fuji is a popular apple variety. Developed in Japan in the 1930s, it’s actually a crossbreed of two American varieties, the Red Delicious and the Ralls Janet. One of the sweetest apples, its flesh is crisp and juicy while its skin often features red stripes on a yellow-green background. According to the U.S. Apple Association, the Fuji is one of America’s five favorite apples, along with the Gala, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith. The Fuji apple shares its name with the tallest mountain in Japan, but it is named for Fujisaki, the town where it originated.
