Season 28, Day 8 - "A Little Alliteration"
It's Sculpture week, and today's quiz is inspired by The Bronco Buster.
The Bronco Buster
“Only those who have ridden a bronco the first time it was saddled, or have lived through a railroad accident, can form any conception of the solemnity of such experiences.”
—Frederic Remington
The Bronco Buster (a.k.a. Bronco Buster or The Broncho Buster) is a bronze sculpture by Frederic Remington. Depicting a cowboy attempting to tame a horse, it was Remington’s first sculpture and remains his best known attempt in that medium. Created in 1895, it was the first in a series of 25 Western-themed bronzes. In 1901, it was exhibited at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, the World’s Fair most remembered for the assassination of President William McKinley. The sculpture was famously gifted to Theodore Roosevelt from the Rough Riders, Roosevelt’s volunteer cavalry regiment in the Spanish-American War. It was also a gift given to President Jimmy Carter and was a fixture of the Oval Office until President Biden removed it in 2021.
