Season 29, Day 18 - "Who's the Father?"
It's Explorer week, and today's quiz is inspired by Samuel de Champlain.
Samuel de Champlain
Samuel de Champlain was a 17th century French explorer. Known as the “Father of New France,” he joined an expedition to Canada in 1603, founding the colony of Acadia in the following year. In 1605, he gave the first detailed description of the Cape Cod area. The city of Quebec —Canada’s oldest city and the capital of New France — was founded by Champlain in 1608. The first European to visit what would later be the state of Vermont, Champlain discovered a large lake there on the border with New York and named it for himself. A self-portrait included in one of his books (seen above) is the only surviving image of Champlain from his lifetime.
