Season 30, Day 11 - "Holy Moses"
It's Peninsula week, and today's quiz is inspired by the Sinai Peninsula.
Sinai Peninsula
The Sinai Peninsula is a triangular peninsula between the Mediterranean and Red Seas. It’s a land bridge between Africa and Asia and the only part of Egypt located in Asia. The 23,000 sq. mi. peninsula is separated from the rest of Egypt by the Gulf of Suez and Suez Canal. The Sinai Peninsula is also bordered by the Gulf of Aqaba, which divides it from the Arabian Peninsula. The Sinai Peninsula is home to Egypt’s tallest mountains, including Mount Sinai, where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments. According to the Bible, the Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years after their exodus from Egypt; this was primarily in the area now known as the Sinai Peninsula. Israeli forces occupied the peninsula during the Suez Crisis of 1956 and the Six-Day War in 1967. In 1982, control of the Sinai was returned to Egypt, a result of the peace treaty signed between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin following the 1978 Camp David Accords.
