Season 30, Day 6 - "Say Uncle!"
It's Man week, and today's quiz is inspired by "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was a 1960s spy series that aired on NBC. It starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as secret agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, respectively. The main characters are employed by U.N.C.L.E., which stands for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. The show originally centered around Vaughn’s character of Napoleon Solo (the titular “Man from U.N.C.L.E.”), but McCallum/Illya was popular enough with audiences to warrant making him part of a two-man team. The primary enemy of U.N.C.L.E. is Thrush, an evil organization bent on world domination. The show had very few recurring characters, and as a result boasted a long list of big-name guest stars. Coincidentally, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy appeared together in one episode before they both were on Star Trek. James Bond creator Ian Fleming was a contributor on the series; he’s credited with coming up with the name “Napoleon Solo.” Episodes of the show were invariably titled “The ______” Affair, from the pilot “The Vulcan Affair” to the series finale “The Seven Wonders of the World Affair.” The series spawned a short-lived spin-off titled The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. and a 2015 film directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.
