Battle of Monmouth

The Battle of Monmouth was an American Revolutionary War battle that was fought on June 28, 1778 near New Jersey's Monmouth Court House. It was the war's last major battle in the north and resulted in a stalemate. It's also the source of the legend of Molly Pitcher (usually identified as Mary Ludwig Hays or Mary Hays McCauley), who's said to have brought water to thirsty soldiers during the battle. Aaron Burr distinguished himself in the battle, but also established himself as an adversary to George Washington when he openly defended Major General Charles Lee, who Washington had relieved of command and court-martialed for disobeying orders during the battle.
